A Short Bedtime Story: The Kind Little Cloud

A gentle, read-aloud-friendly bedtime story about a small cloud who learns the value of sharing rain.

High above a quiet green valley lived a small cloud named Pip. Pip was smaller than the other clouds, and worried that he wasn’t big enough to be useful.

One dry summer morning, Pip noticed a garden below wilting in the heat. The bigger clouds had drifted off toward the mountains, too far away to help in time.

“I’m only small,” Pip thought, “but small is still something.”

Pip drifted low over the garden and let go of every drop of rain he carried. It wasn’t much — just a light, gentle shower — but it was enough to perk up the drooping flowers and fill the empty birdbath.

That evening, the biggest cloud in the sky rumbled by and noticed the freshly watered garden below.

“Who did this?” the big cloud asked.

“I did,” said Pip quietly. “I know I’m small, but I didn’t want to wait.”

The big cloud settled beside Pip. “Being small just means you’re closer to the ground when it matters most,” it said. “That garden needed exactly what you had to give.”

From then on, Pip stopped worrying about being the smallest cloud in the sky, and started looking forward to the mornings when a little rain was exactly enough.

The end.
